Border Drug Busts -

Two big cocaine busts at PeƱas Blancas last week proved that Cost Rican drug enforcement officers were on their game. Last Thursday, 740 kilograms of cocaine were discovered disguised amongst scrap metal being transported from San Jose, Costa Rica to Guatemala. The truck driver and co-driver were both arrested. The metal boxes containing the packets of drugs had been packed with lubricating grease and coffee powder in an attempt to throw the drug dogs off the scent, a plan that did not work. The second seizure involved 139 kilos of cocaine hidden in the refrigeration unit of a truck driven by a Costa Rican and bound for Nicaragua.
